What is the Tchoupitoulas Art Corridor?
The organization has two objectives, one is to complete the flood wall mural. The second is to provide ongoing art education.
TCHOUPITOULAS ART CORRIDOR (TAC)
After phase 1 and part of phase 2 were completed it became clear that this project was growing into something larger. In 2023 the TAC 501c3 was formed to help accomplish the larger goals of art education, community outreach and a focus on beautifying not only the floodwall, but the entire surrounding area. This project goes beyond the flood wall with a program to educate artists in New Orleans and around the world on techniques of painting murals, cultural connections to artwork, and general principals of art/painting. TAC wants to spread the passion of art and culture to the next generation through a multi-layered program focusing on both youth and young adults, giving them the tools to thrive with art as a profession.
The Tchoupitoulas Flood Wall Mural
This is a simple one to explain. Jamar Pierre started this organization with one goal…turn the floodwall into a work of art. This project is about beautifying a transitional corridor, maintaining the cultural identity of a rapidly gentrifying city, and giving New Orleans the longest mural in the world while connecting its subjects to the long and dynamic cultural history of the city.
